Our Story

Aloha Powder Shave Ice isn’t just a business; it’s our family’s story.

Jonathan, a Bay Area native, met Lana, who was born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii (Kalapani Children’s Hospital). From the very beginning, their lives blended two worlds: California and the Islands. For over 15 years, they’ve traveled back and forth to Hawaii, staying deeply connected to Lana’s family, her roots, and the spirit of aloha.

Along the way, they fell in love with a simple yet unforgettable treat: authentic Hawaiian shave ice. Whether it was a stop at Matsumoto’s or Waiola (a local staple in her aunt’s neighborhood that Lana had been visiting since she was a little girl), and those moments became part of their family tradition. The soft, powdery ice, the vibrant flavors, and the feeling that comes with it left a lasting impression.

But back in California, something was missing.

They searched everywhere for that same true Hawaiian shave ice experience: the texture, the quality, the authenticity. Time after time, it just didn’t compare.

What started as a search quickly turned into a mission.

With their children sharing the same passion for shave ice and the aloha spirit, the family set out to bring the real experience to Southern California. They immersed themselves in the craft, sourcing high-quality ingredients inspired by  (and directly from) Hawaii and Japan. They chose purer syrups, real condensed milk, and real cane sugar  (even when it meant a shorter shelf life) because cutting corners was never an option.

Aloha Powder Shave Ice was born from that passion.

Today, we’re proud to serve more than just shave ice; we’re sharing a taste of Hawaii, a family tradition, and the spirit of aloha with every cup.
